short-cut (solution)

The shortest distance between two points is a straight
line.
You need to find the distance AB on the diagram.
One way to do this is to make a scale drawing.
Another way is to use Pythagoras' rule.
This gives AB² = 6² + 3²
= 45.
Then AB
= Ö45
=
6.7 inches to 1 decimal place.
